ENGLISH LANGUAGE CHALLENGES

I started this subject in level two, so I think that I have a little experience. I think it was especially good this last level, I don’t know why, maybe because this year I need read a lot of papers in English and this have been a good complement that make me have more practice not just in the English IV class. I found that the level two and three was less demanding: the level two was more in spoken in Spanish, maybe too much. And in level three was difficult understand the accent of the teacher, but not too much for what I didn’t can learn a little.

This last class has been more constructive, more demanding, and I think that this go well with my form of learning.

About the use of blogs, I think it was a good manner to practice more about putting our ideas in order and being able to write for what other person can read and comment our post.
I need to improve my ability to think in English and, after, to be able to express them to others. In fact, also, I think that I should speak a lot in English to improve my pronunciation. Sometimes I can understand so good when Chileans speak en English, but the accent and idiom from USA and UK speakers is weird to me. Maybe, I could improve this just leaving to watch movies subtitled and trying to understand just with the sound. But I think this isn’t sufficient, so I have thought take other classes outside to obtain a major level in English.

Outside the English class I need to use constantly my English, mainly reading scientific papers and books in the great majority of my other classes. But also, I use my English for listening music and reading novels and books no related with the university.

My Future Job

I am doing a major in archaeology, because I like to understand “why the people do what they do”, and I discovered in the first year of the university that there is a very important thing in the mind of the people, which many times work in an unconsciously manner: the weight of the past. Sometimes we don’t understand why we are doing this thing of this manner and why the other manner is less preferable. Here is the past, far away on time or very recently, if we understand how and what is this “form or manner” to do and think, we will be able to anticipate what is the thing that we need to do or what is the one we don’t, in a determinate context.

In my perspective, is a challenge to understand these manners to do things in the past, because this can give us the opportunity to answer the question about: who are we?

For this major there are a many works that I can do. I can be an analyst in some materiality or class of artifacts, working in a laboratory. Or maybe I can go and participate of the findings and the excavation process of a site. This last way can be divided in two areas: the academic research and the environment impact studies. The first way produces papers and information just for the knowledge. The second way, extract the cultural artifact from the places that are going to be use to put on a building construction. I don’t know why, but I could and would like to do all of these jobs, and I think that is more important the workmates you’ll have than the job itself, at least I think in this way today.

If I was asked in a job interview about my strengths and weaknesses, I would say that my first strength is my high responsibility and my weakness is that I am too perfectionist, and this can make me be very taken of my own ideas.

A certain shade of green

I don’t think I am a green person or something, neither I am in the opposite side of the line, like a nature hater. Rather, I think I would be something like a Green-in-Between person, because I think that us, “The Humankind”, should be aware of our position as beings-in-the-world. In this sense, we are simply a part of a big circle or spiral of the life. Nevertheless, I support, as far as real the practices about caring the environment and the nature –Not the fake campaigns that only show one image without a meaningful background.

Now that I think, I believe that these environmental practices are learned in an individual and fortuitous manner. People can get obtain a tiny information of this practices in the schools, a little more in universities and just for a few cases inside of the family. We haven’t to be blinds: some environmentally friendly practices are very expensive for the common of the people.

If I have one recycle habit, this is split the garbage between organics and no-organics, then “planting the organic garbage and convert him in fertilizer. The problem is when reaches the point in which the space on my garden is insufficient to produce more. This fact causes the stop of the cycle.

I walk as far as possible, and I would like me to have a bicycle, but in my daily life this hasn’t utility. Without doubt, a car is so far of my possibilities, especially because is expensive and drive is so stressful to me.
I think that the best manner of reduce the carbon footprint, and which is missing in our society, is to impulse the solar energy. There is the way.

The Power Of Books! BOOM

I think that I’m not like a book worm nor only read book from time to time, instead, I am always reading, not just books, but comics and mangas too. This didn’t begin so early to me, but my mother says me that she read books to me when I was a child. I just remember have started to read a lot when I was eleven years old, maybe reading Harry Potter’s Saga.

I read all kinds of books, but my favorites are a mixture of real world with fantasy. Nevertheless, I think that I have enjoyed more fantasy, science-fiction or mythic books. Also there are some slice of life books which have been very entertained to me. Until now, I haven’t favorite’s books or writers, but I have liked a lot “Cien Años de Soledad” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and “The Silmarillion” by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Instead, the last book that I have read was “The Hobbit” by Tolkien. Really it was so entertain and took me a couple of nights to finish it. As all of us know, this book is about the adventures of a little creature who prefer the normal and routine life, but, due to things out of his understanding, some events end up leashing the History of his life. Obviously, I recommend this book, especially for children.

Would you, dear avid reader, recomend me a good book to read?

Stonehenge up close: digital laser scan reveals secrets of the past

http://www.guardian.co.uk/culture/2012/oct/09/stonehenge-digital-laser-3d-survey?INTCMP=SRCH
By The Guardian,

This article is about an analysis carried out for English-Heritage through a complete exploration of Stonehenge, utilizing a digital laser 3D scan. This work, realized the present year in the shire of Wiltshire, England, has shown manufacture's traces or marks in each one of the big rocks. This marks could have been made 4500 years ago. Nevertheless, that marks aren't the uniques, because in this slabs has been found evidences of rock art, manufacture and restoration, also, posterior interventions, and specially "graffitis" made from Georgian and Victorians visitants.

On one hand, for this work has been necessary to scan each segment of the slabs and after applying weathering and texturing models, to show how was originally each slab. This has permitted support the idea that the prehistoric monument was completely finalized, and that it would had have an alignment  regard to the winter and sunset solstices, creating too mobility or circulation routes with a sense North-East, and giving the idea of the procession's ways. The carving process would had left exposed the internal layer of the rock, that would had shined with the sun's blaze which would have pass exactly on the interior of the monument.

On the other hand, has been also possible discard certain "lines" and "cracks" that were interpreted like figures or designs, but now is possible to identify them as natural marks. Also, the analysis suggests that the work would have been carried out by many hands with different skills, trying, through hundreds hours work, to generate straight and regular surfaces.
